"I have over 15 years of experience teaching at both liberal arts and research universities. I’ve designed and taught courses on writing, speaking, argumentation and debate, critical thinking, media studies, literary analysis and theory, as well as specialized topics in the history of U. S. political discourse.

I’m new to Wyzant, but I have worked one-on-one with hundreds of students, some over the course of years, helping them with classes or advising them more generally on how to achieve their goals. One of my favorite parts of my job has been directing independent studies, and I love customizing lesson plans around individual interests.

I have a PhD from Northwestern and an MA from the University of Minnesota. I've published articles in the top journals in my field and have presented papers at many international conferences. I've won awards for course and curriculum development as well as fellowships to pursue research in Germany, France, and at a humanities center in the U. S. I know from experience what it takes to succeed at elite academic institutions.

While I’ve worked mostly with students interested in higher education, I welcome those of all ages. My six-year-old is currently teaching me how to tutor her. At any level, I can help you to become a better writer, reader, speaker, researcher, and thinker. I believe that it is important to learn applicable skills but also to practice adapting them to new situations. My general goal as an educator is to guide students to be able to make good judgments on their own.

I have taught students from nearly every type of background. I grew up in a rural area and have lived in several capital cities. I have worked in all major geographical regions of the U.
