"As a former educator (10+ years); I understand what it takes to push a student ahead and I know how to break down topics into useable chunks of information through various mediums. I also teach that there are various ways to learn and enjoy receiving information. This also allows for the student to walk away with useable tools to further his/her educational experience by their own merit. I enjoy teaching an individual how to learn through their strengths while improving the weaker parts of their learning process.
I love the world of science. Particularly; biology, ecology, anatomy/physiology and physics. I taught middle school biology for 3 years at David Birney Prepatory Academy in North Philadelphia and tutored for the topic on the side. I also taught middle school biology and music at KIPP Lanning Square Middle School in Camden, New Jersey for two years. I love the topic of biology because I am a lover of how things work and keep us alive and well; right down to the microscopic processes that cells go through. I have taught 9th grade ecology for 5 years while at Mastery Charter Schools: Shoemaker High School. My love for physics developed in college and carried over into teaching the subject for 2 years. One year at Mastery Pickett Charter Schools and one year at Mastery Lenfest Charter Schools. All of these experiences allowed for me to get a better understanding of how to teach science and how to overcome many pitfalls that occur within learning.
I believe that science is one of those practices that requires hands on learning, models, online tools and games to assist with learning content all while making sure you are understanding the math and theoretical concepts presented in the abstract yet logical world of science. Incorporating technology, learning reading techniques, understanding computation skills on level will make the learning process much more fun and engaging. I look forward to seeing the growth and development of anyone that I have the pleasure of serving." less...
