"I have a Master's in Entomology from the Federal University of Paraná, Brazil, and a Bachelor's in Entomology/Philosophy (double major) from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
I have two and a half years' experience tutoring full-time to students of ages 5 to 75, including college and grad students. I have worked with students one-on-one as well as in small groups of up to five. Subjects included College Essay Editing, English Literature, Ethics, Evolutionary Biology, Entomology, Higher Ed application essays, and study skills; High School English, Literature, Essay Editing, Biology, Government, and Civics; Grade School Math, English, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, and Science; and Portuguese to students of all ages.
Prior to a first session with a student, particularly for K-12 remediation in Math or ELA, I proactively prepared lesson plans. Based on student performance during the first session, I dynamically adapted the lesson plan to suit students’ needs, for example to bridge knowledge gaps.
College/grad students often needed assistance navigating their online platforms in order to find deadlines for assignments, essays, etc. This resulted in me drawing up a study/essay writing plan for students and helping them adhere to it during the semester. Other adult students were often looking for general enrichment in areas like English Grammar or Essay Editing. In these cases, I designed curricula myself, dynamically adapting these according to students’ needs.
I also have experience designing curricula for small groups of up to five students in Math, English, and Literature, where I continually looked for ways to improve my teaching style to best suit the individual needs of each learner in the group.
During my Master's, I TAed for courses related to Zoology. And while a student, and while working as a Research Specialist, at UW–Madison, I volunteered to present at seminars as well as for public outreach on public health and mosquito biology." less...
