"I have a Bachelor's in English with an emphasis on professional writing and a Master's degree in Learning Experience Design.
I recently stepped out of the public (charter) school setting after 11 years. For 10 years I taught 7th grade English and then in the final year, I was an instructional coach and curriculum specialist for grades 7-12. The school where I spent my time is a top performing K-12 school which uses classical education as its model. As such, I have vast experience with grammar, writing, and literature. As an instructional coach, I supported teachers in all areas to improve teaching methods, work with the MTSS program to design/implement interventions, and partner with the Special Education team to design professional development opportunities for all staff.
In addition to these 11 years, I have tutored on and off with elementary, middle school, high school, and college students. For grades K-8, I have tutored all subjects including science, math, social studies, history, music, Spanish, etc. For grades 9-12 and beyond, my experience and strengths are in the humanities.
Previous to being a teacher, I worked as an assistant to two college professors supporting students with technical writing, literary analysis, editing, and other forms of composition. I also have supported summer school courses for early elementary classes to emphasize reading literacy. Recently, I was also selected to serve on a board of educators to evaluate English Language Arts texts for the state's standardized tests.
I seek to learn and see tutoring as an opportunity to continually expand my knowledge and skill base. In addition, I enjoy forging relationships with students in a way that is comfortable for them. While I have a large collection of resources and tools, I take time to craft each session around student goals and needs. Learning is never a one-size fits all, so my time is devoted to making the experience match in the best possible way." less...
