"Dedicated, enthusiastic and knowledgeable! I really got thinking about Organic Chemistry in my undergraduate years, and I have not stopped since. I earned my PhD in Organic Chemistry working on natural product multi-step synthesis. I started my teaching career early, first as a teaching assistant and tutor, and then as a professor at two community colleges. I have guided students through Organic Chemistry I & II at the college-level beginning in 2017 (8 years and counting). I enjoy the interactions with my students and love seeing them learn. I love the language and the science, and I love seeing the light go on for students as they start to see the patterns. I emphasize understanding over memorization. Once you begin to understand how things work, that knowledge can span a multitude of reactions.

I have taught Organic Chemistry I & II out of two textbooks, Organic Chemistry by John McMurry (the 2023, 10th edition is open source and a wonderful resource I strongly recommend) and Organic Chemistry by Joel Karty (2022, 3rd edition, W. W. Norton). These college-level courses build students' understanding of structure and bonding, conformations, nomenclature, and then move on to reactions and mechanisms. Other topics include acids and bases, thermodynamics and synthesis. I also spend a good amount of time on spectroscopy in Organic Chemistry II, focusing on how we analyze organic chemicals and establish their structures. I have reviewed MCAT Preparation Guides focused on Organic Chemistry such as those by Kaplan and The Princeton Review, and I am happy to focus tutor sessions on MCAT preparation.

I am returning to tutoring to try to meet students' needs in a tailored fashion, and I am truly inspired by students who want to take the time to invest in their education and understanding of a field I have grown to love. I am here to answer your questions on specific topics or can work with you if you want to build from the ground up. Please contact me to start the conversation, and let's start this journey." less...
