"I have an English degree from The University of Texas in Austin as well as a Master's in Landscape Architecture from UTA. I am well-traveled and have held jobs in a variety of fields, so my experience is far-reaching.

I taught high school English (including Pre-AP) for 10 years, from freshman to junior year. During that time, I was trained in several areas including Gifted and Talented, and ESL. I am a writer myself and I love to teach writing. Helping students improve their writing, vocabulary and mechanics is a joy, and I have some wonderful resources for working on those skills.

It’s important to teach students how to think for themselves. For example, I believe an understanding of Greek and Latin prefixes, suffixes and roots teaches students to have a general understanding of a word, even if they don’t know the exact definition. I have many tips and techniques to help a student with their understanding of vocabulary. College classes and many jobs require research skills, and I have a great method for teaching the research process.

I am happy to come to your home or meet in a public place at your convenience. I also think Skype works well for students. I am flexible with my hours, and require 24-hour notice for a cancellation.
