"I attended Wayne State University where I received my Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in math and a minor in science. I also earned a Master of Arts in Educational Technology from Michigan State University. I began teaching full time at Waterford Mott High School in Waterford, Michigan. My schedule consisted of Geometry, Algebra 1 and Precalculus. After three years at Mott, I accepted a full time position at Avondale High School in Auburn Hills, Michigan. I was on staff at Avondale for 25 years and during my career, I taught the following subjects: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, College Algebra, Precalculus, Trigonometry, Discrete Math, Biology and Driver’s Education.
Outside of full time teaching, I have been tutoring high school math students individually for six years. In the past year, I have begun tutoring college freshmen in College Algebra. I have gotten skilled in tutoring online thanks to the pandemic. I utilize a shared whiteboard as well as a document camera so I am able to demonstrate actual lessons in real time online. I enjoy working individually with math students and am fueled by the fact that I can see the impact I am making. Nothing is more satisfying than when a student makes a connection. I have always loved math and am fulfilled by sharing that love with others.

I connect topics to prior knowledge so students can see where they are at and apply that knowledge to other situations. There is a lot of stigma associated with math and I help break through that barrier. I love to help students thrive rather than survive." less...
