"Hi everyone! My name is Nathan and I am a recent graduate of Kenyon College here in Ohio. I worked as a teaching assistant for Kenyon's German department during the fall semester of 2022, and recently returned home to the U.S. from Austria, where I lived and worked as an English teaching assistant for the '23-'24 school year at two high schools in the beautiful city of Vienna.
My teaching/tutoring experience started at Kenyon, when I served as a T.A. for the German department. I held one 50 minute class full of underclassmen German students at Kenyon on Wednesday nights, and reviewed the material they were discussing in class at that time. The majority of these lessons were conducted in German, which was a bit difficult for them at first, but towards the end of the semester all five students kindly expressed to me that they appreciated how simple and logical I was able to make the material. Shortly before graduating from Kenyon, I learned that I'd been offered a position I had applied for as an English teaching assistant in Vienna.
My time in Vienna allowed me to greatly enhance both my teaching, and German skills. My day to day responsibilities included one on one lessons, small group discussions, or full class lessons of Austrian students learning English. Austria is a German speaking country, so naturally I was presented with an abundance of opportunities to apply, practice, and enhance my German skills. While I am not at a native speaker's level of fluency, I can confidently place my abilities into the C1 category of the Common European Framework (C2 being just below native).
My teaching style is very much oriented around my students - wherever they feel their focus should best be spent, is exactly where it will be. I certainly have some material and methods of my own that I will utilize during our lessons, but I'm here solely for your benefit! I would be thrilled to use my experience in German to help you become a better, more confident speaker!" less...
