"Hi, I'm Sandy and I have a PhD in biostatistics from the University of Pennsylvania and over a decade of professional experience in both teaching and the hands-on practice of using biostatistics to conduct scientific research. I spent several years as a Professor at Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University where I conducted research and taught medical students how to apply statistics to understand and conduct research. I have also worked in cancer research in the tech industry for nearly 10 years and have collaborated with many types of colleagues, including software engineers and physicians. This experience has given me the opportunity to explain statistics to many different types of people and stay abreast on cutting edge methods and technology. I have authored over 35 peer-reviewed publications in the scientific literature and given numerous presentations that make statistics accessible to a wide audience. I have over 15 years of experience using the R programming language and have been invited to present at regional and national R conferences.
Any tutor can help you memorize formulas and plug in numbers, but my goal is to help students build statistical intuition to understand the "why" behind the numbers. First, I work with students to help understand the broader scientific problem. Next, we logically deduce what we might expect to see before we look at the data to gain a better understanding of how to interpret the results in context. My years of applied experience have given me a deep knowledge of how statistics can help us understand the world around us, and I'm excited to share this skill with students using a patient and holistic approach." less...
