"I'm a North-Carolina born, Brooklyn-based poet (which, these days, feels a bit like describing myself as a betamax video recorder or a SONY walkman) with a passion for language, literature & writing. I was educated at Rice University & Columbia University School of the Arts. My first book was published in 2003; I am furiously at work on my second manuscript. My professional life has been multifaceted - often multifocal - & varied, including stints as: an adjunct English professor in the CUNY system, a conversational English tutor for a member of the Hungarian Parliament, Op-Ed columnist, ghost writer, cafeteria server, & a full-time volunteer for The United Farm Workers of America. Professionally, I have worked (almost) exclusively within the domain of English / Literature: composition (remedial & intermediate), introduction to literature, creative writing (poetry, flash fiction), and pre-college bridge courses for those high school graduates whose literacy skills are insufficient for entry into the introductory composition courses required by the the CUNY system. However, I have also led successful GED courses, during which I was required to teach all of the subject areas addressed in the exam.
