"I'm Austin! I graduated from Brown University in May with a BA degree in Human Biology and Economics. I received a 4.0 GPA with Brown's highest academic honors (highest Latin Honors, Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi). I am currently a management consultant in the Boston area.
Some of the most rewarding experiences of my academic career have come through teaching opportunities. In high school, I founded a community tutoring program in conjunction with preexisting after school programs and served as a teaching assistant for Introductory Biology. In college, I was a teaching assistant for introductory and upper-level Chemistry and Economics classes. My responsibilities included leading two weekly 30 person recitation sections, grading homework, and hosting review sessions. For three semesters running, the Economics department at Brown recognized me as the highest reviewed undergraduate teaching assistant.
I attribute my success in teaching/tutoring to my enthusiasm and student-focused approach. Instead of emphasizing formulas or rules, I instill a deeper, conceptual understanding of the material. As such, I view teaching as a dynamic interplay between listening, adapting, and delivering the right information the right way. Through my experience as a teaching assistant, I honed the patience and creativity required to explain complex ideas and the energy needed to sustain my students' attention over the latest internet distractions. Throughout, I also consistently asked for and valued feedback in order to help me understand the diverse perspectives and learning styles of my audience.
For testing, I received a 780 on the GMAT (99.9th percentile; 50 quant, 48 verbal), 35 on the ACT, 1550 (new scale SAT equivalent), 800 on the Biology M SAT, 800 on the SAT Math Level 2, and a 790 on the SAT US History exam.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to start scheduling lessons. I look forward to hearing from you soon!" less...
