"I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brown University and have worked with students for 9+ years. I majored in Hispanic Literature and Culture and completed Pre-Medical Studies. In undergrad, I was the recipient of the CRC Press Chemistry Achievement Award, which was presented to the top 3 out of 180 General Chemistry students. I have worked with elementary, middle and high school students. I specialize in tutoring students in subjects including math (elementary though calculus), science (biology, chemistry, physics), Spanish (all levels), social studies (all levels), and English (editing and writing).
As a student who studied both Spanish Literature and Pre-Med while working as an EMT, Spanish medical interpreter at Clínica Esperanza, and peer tutor, I have mastered both time management skills and learned how to handle pressure and work under high-intensity environments. I love passing insight, offering guidance and giving advice to other students that I have learned from my own experiences. I know how daunting it can be when teachers explain concepts really quickly in class so my goal as a tutor is to distill the concepts my students learn to the fundamentals. It is only through understanding the basics that students can work on the more complex and nuanced problems that teachers assign to them. During our first session, I will learn more about my student, their background in the subject, their learning style, and both strengths/struggles in school. I adapt my tutoring style to my student's needs and consistently check-in to make sure that the way I explain concepts works best for my students.
I'm always receptive to student and parent feedback and work to create a safe space. As someone who has worked with tutors myself, I know how helpful it can be to work in a one-on-one setting. I look forward to working with you or your child and helping you gain confidence to succeed in school!" less...
