"Hello! My name is Astrid and I'm excited to share my passion for all things Classics!
I have 14 years of experience with Latin and 8 with Ancient Greek. I went to Johns Hopkins University as an undergraduate where I majored in Classics, with a minor in Near Eastern Studies. I then got my Master's degree from Columbia University in Classical Studies. Throughout my education I mastered not only Latin and Ancient Greek, but also gained expertise in Greek, Roman, and Egyptian History.
I taught history and Latin classes at Columbia University as a TA for 3 years. During this time, I taught my own Latin classes, worked one-on-one with students to help with ancient language review and academic writing skills, and gave weekly lectures on Ancient history. I have been a private Latin tutor for a year now. I am excited to take on new students, not just in Latin but in any Classics related subject!
My teaching style is enthusiastic and encouraging. Learning a dead language can be frustrating! My goal is always to remember the fun part- we're learning something ancient and beautiful with centuries of meaning packed into each noun and verb!
I am available as a tutor either to help supplement a language or history course you are already taking or to provide independent lessons tailored specifically for you. I welcome students of any age; high school, undergraduate/graduate, and adult.
If you would like Ivy League quality instruction from the comfort of your home, please reach out. I am excited to meet you and help guide you on your journey into the past!" less...
