"Hi, I'm Alexa! I've been learning, teaching, and translating Japanese for over ten years. I have translated everything from manga to engineering blueprints, and I currently write Japanese language and culture articles for Rosetta Stone. I graduated magna cum laude from Emory University in Atlanta, GA with a major in East Asian Studies and spent my junior year abroad in Kyoto, Japan. I have also obtained JLPT N2 certification and went on from university to teach high school Japanese myself.
My approach to tutoring is based in thoroughness: Understanding the structure of a sentence is more important than memorizing certain phrases so that you can build sentences on your own with the plethora of grammar, vocabulary, and nuances language has to offer. I will not only guide you during the lesson but will provide you with the tools you need to study on your own.
My Japanese lessons are all paired with grammar and vocabulary lists from either textbooks or well-known and acclaimed lists, such as the JLPT, so that students can reinforce their knowledge after lessons and access practice questions. All writing and proofreading lessons will include explanations for my suggested edits (although the student will have the final say, of course) to enable students to go forth with new knowledge to inform their writing decisions in the future. However you learn best, I have resources and methods to offer that will make the most out of your time and effort.
In my free time, I love to read, play video games, and beat my family at board games!
Would you like to study from the basics of Japanese to become fluent one day? Would you like to proudly turn in your perfect essay? Let's get started!" less...
