"I graduated from the University of Central Missouri in 1999 with a BA in English, my focus on American Literature. I joined the Army after and was stationed in Germany. When I got out of the Army I went back to school for my Master's in Ancient and Classical History along with a graduate degree in American History. This is basically the same as 2 master's degrees. My proficiency is in history but I have experience as a writer and I appreciate literature.
I have visited Greece and seen the battle site of Chaeronea, where Philip II and his son Alexander, not yet the Great, defeated a Greek alliance and altered the course of history. Without Philip and later Alexander, the Greeks might never have bothered invading Persia and breaking their backs. While in Greece I also saw the island of Sphacteria, an important location for the Peloponnesian War, Sparta, Mycenae, Athens and the harbor, what's left of it. I have a very good idea of what the distances, terrain, and environment was like while the Greeks were becoming THE GREEKS!
I visited Rome and toured many of the sights, not the least of which was the place where the Roman government met, toured the Vatican, and saw the sights first hand. I can't say Rome left the impression Greece did but maybe that's because I saw the tourist things and in Greece I made my own tour.
I don't so much teach history as I do have a conversation about it. I can lecture but prefer to discuss it. When I start it is like a boulder rolling downhill. I pick up speed and gather to me everything as I go, providing the facts, both interesting and academic. I won't bore you and you'll learn a great deal.
I can offer tips for writing good essays and papers. My BA is nothing to brag about for quality of my effort but my MA resume is full of 90-99% grades with none lower than a B on a paper and most comfortably above the 93%. I passed with distinction my comprehensive final, which covered Roman, Greek, Byzantine, and Medieval topics.
If you HATE history then I'm the tutor you need. I" less...
