"Hi, I am Maayan!
I am a Principal Software Engineer and have over 9 years of experience in the industry, having worked with Java, Javascript, Python, various databases (sql and no sql such as DynamoDB, Redis, S3) and cloud technologies.
I graduated from Arizona State University with a Software Engineering Bachelor's degree with a 3.76 GPA and was on the Dean's list 4 times. I am currently pursuing my Master's (in software engineering) at Penn State, so far with a 4.0 GPA.
My experience with tutoring stated when I was in high school - I was teaching math and physics to individuals and groups, ages 10-18. After I graduated I was offered a permanent position at the tutoring company and started teaching computer science both, groups and privately (ages 16 - 40). I worked there for 3 years, and this is how I discovered my passion to software engineering.
Now, being a Principal Engineer, and previously a Lead Engineer, tutoring and mentoring others is a very big part of my day-to-day job. My approach to one on one tutoring is very similar to my approach to uplifting and helping others grow in their career at work - my job as a tutor is to teach you how to think like an engineer, what approaches to take, what are the right questions to ask and how to effectively search for answers, so that eventually, you don't need me anymore. I do that through explaining the rational and reasons behind certain decisions, teaching you industry best practices and problem solving skills. In addition, I have also given dozens of tech talks about various topics, presenting in front of hundreds of engineers at a time. This is valuable because my diverse tutoring experience have taught me that every person has different needs when it comes to learning, and so I always try being proactive by asking for feedback and adjusting my teaching techniques to the student's needs." less...
