"I have been freelancing as a Producer, Director of Photography, and Editor in Santa Cruz and around the Bay Area from 1995 until 2008, when I moved to Burlington, VT to take a job with Burlington College; teaching my craft and serving as Technical Director for the College, as well as teaching a number of classes over my 5 years there. I also taught Advanced Cinematography at Champlain College for a semester.

While I don't have a Masters degree, I do have a BFA from Emerson College and I have both practical hands on knowledge and classroom experience. Students get me. Despite running a tight ship, and demanding discipline in their craft, I'm fun. I'm confident in what I'm teaching them - having worked for the IATSE local 16 in San Francisco, I know what professional practices and protocols are, and as such, I can help students navigate what can be a maze - namely finding passionate work in the world. Having worked at my craft for over 25 years, I "know the ropes."

In 'The Psychology of Commercials' class I taught a basic principle I believe to be very true… Understand that one wants to sell a belief, not a product. Why? Because beliefs lead to feelings, and feelings lead to behavior. So each project I approach, I try to understand what the end users believe. Good advice in whatever you do.

I have many skills and experiences gained from my years of work in the industry, from basic IT and asset management, Final Cut Pro, Adobe CS6 and After EFX, color correction, and the rest of the usual suspects. I have seen many different facets of the media world, though my passion and expertise still surround production.

Having run a small production business on the side of my freelance work for many years, I know how to maximize efficiency, and get the most value out of a day of work. Having professional grip work for Local 16 in my past helps me know what can be accomplished and how long it should take.
