"I love languages, and for that reason have a Master's degree in Spanish from the University of Colorado, and a Bachelor's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from Loretto Heights College, Denver. In addition to the academics, I have significant experience of the Latin culture having traveled, lived, and worked in Spain, Mexico, and Guatemala. I taught a variety of adults, teenagers, and children in Mexico for three and a half years, which included a wide range of subjects from basic literacy (in Spanish) to English for Mexican engineers or executives. Much of this experience was as a volunteer working in poor rural indigenous areas. Consequently, my teaching style has adapted often according to the needs, abilities, and background of the students with whom I was working. In addition, some of these situations were with small groups or one-on-one, which more closely approximates a tutoring situation. Recently, I have been a tutor for the past 5 years in the language lab and GED classroom of a local community college which has again provided contact with international students learning English, as well as American students studying Spanish or getting their GED. I truly enjoy working one-on-one or with small groups as this offers opportunities to get to know your students on a much more personal level, and they, you, as well; and to see more closely the growth and satisfaction that the learning produces in each student." less...
