"I have been teaching for two years; most recently at a local elementary school. My experience has been with students in grades K-8th. I worked as the 6th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies instructor, a substitute float for all grades, the English Language Learner Interventionist, and lastly this year I was the first grade instructor teaching English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science. After school I taught a poetry class for middle school and was the spelling bee coordinator for the Scripps National Spelling Bee which included grades 3-5th.
I have my Master's degree in English from Arizona State University, and my SEI Endorsement. I am also a student of the LETTRS program; actively learning how to fill the gaps for below average students in reading and writing comprehension. I have applied for my Teaching Certification and that is currently in progress.
Once I know where a student is academically, I can then build lessons that match the student's needs and learning style. I value the connections I make with my students because students are engaged when they are included, interested, and having fun. That's what I give to all of the students that I have inspired and helped grow and achieve goals successfully. I am passionate about helping students feel heard and validated, as well as confident in the classroom. An issue I have noticed in education is that students do not feel confident in their ability to learn because the content can be overwhelming. I want to be the person that is able to bridge the gap making learning fun and enjoyable building upon prior background knowledge, interests of the student, and enhancing social and emotional skills and strategies." less...
