"Hi! I'm Brandon, currently a Junior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology. I have achieved a score of 780 on the SAT Math Section and earned a 4 on the AP Biology exam.

As the oldest "kid" in both my immediate and extended family, I never had an older sibling to turn to for homework help. I aim to be that supportive figure for students who need it, offering the kind of assistance I wished I had. I understand that many students feel hesitant or embarrassed to ask for help, but I’m here to create a comfortable environment that adapts to each student’s unique needs.

I bring two years of professional tutoring experience from a well-known math tutoring center, where I worked in a classroom setting with students from K-12 in areas such as Elementary School Math, Algebra 1 & 2, Pre-Calculus, and SAT prep. My sessions ranged from working with one student to small groups of up to four, depending on their needs. I also bring in two years of volunteer tutoring experience at JFCS. It’s a company that provides social service programs like free tutoring for refugee students. Most of this tutoring was conducted one-on-one online via Zoom or Microsoft Teams, so I’m well-versed in the most effective strategies for remote teaching.

My teaching style focuses on helping students develop and refine their own reasoning and problem-solving skills. When we work together, I guide students through example problems, encouraging them to articulate each step as we go. I help them not only understand what we’re doing but also why we’re doing it. Once we reach a solution, I ask them to walk me through the entire process in their own words, reinforcing their understanding and equipping them to tackle similar problems independently in the future.
