"Hello, I am a current student at George Mason University majoring in Integrative Studies with a concentration in education and information technology. I have been an educator for 6 years, starting as a math instructor at Mathnasium then as a private tutor and through Varsity Tutors. I currently work as a math and science special education teacher assistant, at the middle school level.I have worked with students from elementary school math through trigonometry 1 on 1, in small groups, and in a classroom setting. I am also experienced working with special education students, as well as general education students and honors students.
I became a teacher/tutor in order to help students build a strong foundation in math at a younger age and improve their confidence so they may succeed at higher levels. My goal when tutoring is for the student to be able to solve and understand problems on their own, so I observe their capabilities and adjust the amount of assistance I provide so it is not more than necessary. I allow students to think through difficult problems on their own first, then guide them on how to think through the problem in a way that will be easier for them to understand and replicate with similar problems." less...
