"I have recently retired from teaching in Ashtabula Area City Schools. Although I have taught many subjects, my start was as a Title 1 math instructor for 4 years servicing k-6 students. I have taught math in all grades under my certificate. (K-8) My last 8 years have been remediation for all 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students in the district.
My goal has been to both help students with strategies that will help them in the long term. This includes both students that struggle with math and also encourage students to extend their math thinking beyond what normally happens in the classroom. Math has been, and still is in many cases, taught in a rather one-dimensional manner. I have worked really hard to extend how all students approach math, with an extremely strong focus on number sense.
I earned my Master's Degree from Kent State's Math Clinicians program. I have also attended many other math programs for teachers such as Project Discovery, Math, in Chardon, Ohio. I also have presented workshops for teachers on various math topics. With my unique history of teaching all grades under my certification, I know-how knowledge and thinking in a grade level should progress from kindergarten through Jr. High.
