"I have studied piano since a very early age. Throughout primary school, I spent almost an equal amount of time studying, practicing, and performing piano as I did with the rest of my academics. I regularly participated in the National Guild Auditions and the Missouri Music Teacher Association's piano competitions, consistently earning exceptional ratings. I earned a B.A. in Fine Arts from Truman State University, where I broadened my studies to vocal accompanying, keyboard history and literature, harpsichord, and more solo performance.
I stand out with my ability to empathize with the student, allowing them to channel their unique self into their music and convey their expression to the audience, while adhering to the proven traditions of keyboard instruction and practice. This is in contrast to the notorious caricature of the strict piano teacher that leaves students dreading their next lesson. As I have experienced myself and heard from other performers, being at peace with one's self positively correlates to better music performance.
At Truman, I supplemented my traditional music history studies with an experimental course on Blues Music in 20th century America. I made sure to analyze music history in a way that explains the lineage of all the different forms of music that exists today. I also studied various methods of music composition, production, and performance both in distant and recent history. This allows me to draw connections in music history and composition to things that the student truly cares about, which of course greatly improves the experience for the student.
