"Dear Potential Students and Parents,
With over 15 years of experience in viral genomics, molecular biology, and scientific communication, I am deeply passionate about education and dedicated to helping students thrive academically. My journey began when I moved to the U.S. at the age of five, learning English and adapting to new cultural and social norms. This experience gave me a firsthand understanding of the challenges students face, especially when feeling overwhelmed or navigating a language barrier. It also shaped my teaching philosophy: to create a patient, supportive environment where every student feels empowered to succeed.
Throughout my academic career, I’ve had the privilege of teaching many undergraduate students, including one who is now a professor at Columbia University. During my postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Florida, I mentored underrepresented students in the SF2UF Bridge Program, fostering their growth and confidence in science. I also developed and taught a graduate-level programming course, tailoring the curriculum to meet the needs of learners with varying skill levels. These experiences have honed my ability to simplify complex concepts, ensuring that every student can grasp challenging material and build lasting confidence over time.
I hold a BS in Food Science from The Ohio State University and a PhD in Molecular Virology from Cornell University. Beyond my credentials, I am passionate about creating a collaborative learning environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions and take ownership of their education. Whether you or your child is preparing for an exam, tackling coursework, or seeking extra support, I am committed to helping them succeed. By fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills, I aim to equip students for academic success and lifelong achievement. I look forward to the opportunity to help.
Sincerely,
Kurtis F, PhD" less...
