"Hi Everyone!

My name is Kate. I am 26 years old and a graduate from East Stroudsburg University. I graduated with a degree in special education and elementary education. I hold a current special education and general education teaching certification in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. I currently am perusing my reading specialist certification at Centenary College.

I am currently a special education teacher in a 1st grade inclusion classroom. I spend a majority of my day supporting my students within the inclusion classroom; the other part of my day is spent with my students within a resource classroom. Prior to teaching 1st grade special education I taught kindergarten special education, preschool special education and 3rd grade math replacement.

I have experience-teaching students who are on the autism spectrum. I have worked with students who are high functioning, low functioning and everything in between. I taught these students within a general education classroom, resource room and self-contained classroom. I have had training by a BCBA (board certified behavior analyst) on how to create and implement a classroom based upon applied behavior analysis. I have created and implemented behavior plans and discrete trials.

I have completed the Orton-Gillingham 30-hour comprehensive training; I hold the Orton-Gillingham trained certification. I also have experience using Fundations and The Wilson Reading Program.

I am Orton-Gillingham trained. Orton-Gillingham is program that focuses on grammar, phonics, spelling vocabulary and reading comprehension. The program is based upon a multi-sensory approach to reading and writing. I also, have experience using several other reading/writing programs such as Wilson and Handwriting Without Tears. Aside from my formal qualifications I am enthusiastic, patient, creative and fun!
