"Dear students,
I believe that anyone can learn anything, with the right guidance. I've taught hundreds of people, from middle schoolers to adult learners. Whatever you're working on, we will tackle it together!
A little information about me: I have a BA in math, summa cum laude, from Dartmouth College, and a PhD in math from Northwestern University.
I've always been a teacher at heart. In high school, I was a volunteer math tutor. For most of college, I worked as a math tutor and study group leader. During my 6 years as a grad student, I served as a TA; one year, I was named the best TA in my department. As a postdoc for 3 years, I had the pleasure of teaching my own math courses. Once again, I was named the best postdoctoral teacher in the whole Northwestern Math Department.
Courses Taught:
- Calculus (all levels)
- Linear algebra
- Foundations of Higher Math (an intro to logic, sets, and writing proofs)
Courses Tutored:
- Pre-algebra and algebra (all levels)
- Geometry
- Precalculus
- Calculus (all levels)
- Statistics
- Differential equations
- Linear algebra
- Number theory
- Real analysis
Given my advanced graduate coursework and research experience, I'd also be comfortable teaching most other college math classes, from finite math to topology or abstract algebra. Finally, I'd like to help you prepare for tests, such as SAT math, ACT math, or AP Calculus. I have personal experience studying for these tests and doing well -- I got 1600 on the SAT, and scored 5 on all my AP exams -- so I know what they take.
I will try my best to accommodate your needs, and match my teaching to your learning style. In general, I think getting good at math requires lots of practice, like sports or music. So, we'll work through lots of practice problems together. I'll also illustrate concepts with pictures and vivid examples. And if you have math or testing anxiety, I will try to help you work through that.
I want you to feel the sense of empowerment that comes when you realize, "Hey, I can do" less...
