"Hello! I am a graduate (Summa Cum Laude) of the prestigious Berklee College of Music where I studied with saxophone legends Joseph Viola, George Garzone and Bill Pierce. I was selected by Mr. Viola to receive the Joseph Viola Scholarship for Excellence in Classical Woodwind Performance.
I have worked as a teacher, musician, band leader and composer in the New York City area for the last 25+ years, and taught private music lessons for 10 years at the prestigious Trevor Day School in Manhattan. And, I have served as Music Director for elite boys' summer camp Camp Androscoggin in Maine for the last 6 years. I have composed music for off-broadway shows with people like Tony-winner Stephanie J. Block, Tony Nominees Kathleen Chalfant, Mary Testa, etc. And, I lead the Lars Jacobsen Trio, which features an exciting blend of jazz, funk, rock and classical music.
I have 25+ years of experience teaching and I am an expert teacher of saxophone, clarinet, flute, piano, improvisation, music theory, composition, Logic Pro X, GarageBand, beat making and more! And, I offer a wide range of services to students of all ages and skill levels. With a kind, supportive and fun teaching style, I will provide you with personalized instruction to help you achieve your goals, whether you're just starting out or looking to take your skills to the next level.
I am experienced helping students develop their creative skills in addition to their technical abilities. For students interested in learning jazz improvisation, I can help them find their own voice using my expertise in music history, music appreciation, music theory (ie. chord progressions found in jazz standards such as ii-V-I's, blues, "Rhythm Changes" and more), transcribing (learning to imitate and notate jazz solos by ear), jazz repertoire, composition and arranging.
Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or to try a lesson with me! I look forward to helping you achieve your goals!!" less...
