"I have been teaching and tutoring mathematics, chemistry, biology, and physics, and preparing students for the SAT and ACT for many years. I also specialize in physics and chemistry olympiads, the biology olympiad (USABO), and math competitions (especially the AMC, AIME, and USAMO). In addition to my many private students, I have worked for several tutoring centers including Sylvan, Mathnasium, and Seed of Paramus. I have also worked for the New York City Department of Education, teaching high school science (living environment, ecology, physics, and biotechnology) at Frederick Douglass Academy IV. I have completed a PhD in Mathematics at Stevens Institute of Technology and currently work at JPMorgan Chase in quantitative modeling.
I am a strong believer in an individualized approach to education. I pride myself on my ability to simplify math and science for students and explain complex ideas in a clear, straightforward, and readily understandable way. I focus on concepts, reinforce them with examples, and teach my students how to think clearly and methodically, which is key to success in math and science. Over the years, I have not only helped my students greatly improve their grades and standardized test scores, but also to develop an interest for the subjects I teach and a desire to learn and understand them.
I was first introduced to teaching when, as a high school student at the Bergen County Academies, I worked at a math camp teaching non-standard problem solving to 5th - 8th graders. Seeing the students' eyes light up with wonder upon being exposed to novel ideas and new ways of thinking is an experience I will not soon forget.
My schedule is fairly flexible. About half of my students are in Manhattan and the rest are in North Jersey, where I live. Your success means a lot to me, and I look forward to hearing from you!" less...
