"My name is Cliff and I graduated with my Bachelor's in chemistry, conducting undergraduate research in Medicinal/Organic chemistry which I have continued on as a PhD student. I fell in love with chemistry as a high school student taking AP Chem, thanks to an outstanding teacher who really made the subject so exciting. Chemistry is the foundation of every process that occurs in the world around us and being able to understand that is like seeing the world in HD. Learning later in college that chemistry was the foundation of drug design was life changing, and the idea that I could truly make a difference in people's lives by helping to develop new therapies was so thrilling.
I have one year of previous experience tutoring organic chemistry to undergraduate students online, during which time I have held both one-time sessions and recurring students. Sessions would typically last 30 minutes to an hour, and I tutored via homework assistance, exam prep, as well as research assistance. I have tutored a vast array of organic chemistry topics ranging from introductory level Organic 1 concepts all the way to more advanced graduate level mechanisms and medicinal chemistry topics. Besides traditional tutoring, I have experience teaching undergraduate students through supervised undergraduate research. Therefore, I am confident and capable of teaching not only a large array of concepts, but also practical lab techniques.
I believe in a reductionist approach to teaching by breaking down concepts into their simplest parts. That way students understand the "why" behind something and can truly learn, rather than just memorization.
I not only believe in helping students succeed in the classroom, but also in fostering a love and interest in the subject. I love the pursuit of knowledge and wish to aid everyone in their own journeys. I am passionate about chemistry, a lifelong learner, and I wish to share this passion with all those interested." less...
