"Hello! I am a 2018 graduate from the University of Pittsburgh (magna cum laude) with a bachelor’s degree in biology. I also completed a major in economics and minors in chemistry and music.
My experience began with 1 year as a TA and course instructor for undergraduates in a medical-school-level physiology course. I then spent 2 years working in K-12 education. This included time as an after-school program leader for grades 6-12, as well as an academic coach at an in-person learning hub for grades K-7 during pandemic-related school closures. My most recent experience was as an after school leader with the Free Library of Philadelphia from Oct 2023 to Aug 2024. I am now applying to a teacher residency with the Philadelphia Public Schools for high school biology that will begin in the 2025-26 school year.
Most of my experience has been focused on middle and high school students, so I am particularly adept at navigating the unique challenges to academic success in that age range. This experience includes directing the school learning environment for a group of five 6th graders and teaching an SAT/ACT prep course for high school students. While I am most equipped to work with grades 6-12, I am willing and able to work with students at the elementary and college level given my experience.
As a student, I’ve found it worthwhile to understand the conceptual foundations of course material, rather than simply memorizing the steps for solving problems on a test. I strive to facilitate that for students because it builds learning skills that can be applied in any course. At the same time, I realize that exam performance is crucial for a student’s success and access to opportunities in the future. Therefore, I will also provide you with practical test-taking strategies to maximize your scores.
I strive to build trusting connections with students because I believe in a holistic approach to education. I look forward to helping you or your student overcome your challenges and get the most out of your education." less...
