"After 20+ years in media sales, I decided to transition into teaching so went back to school to earn an alternative license in elementary education. I currently hold a lateral entry license to teach Kindergarten through 6th grade. I tutored 2nd grade students last year in reading so am familiar with the 2nd grade language arts curriculum. I enjoyed working with students in a small group and also had the opportunity to work with students one on one. This allows for individualized lessons geared to the specific skill that a student needs to master.
I love seeing students have that "light bulb" moment when a concept, skill or vocabulary word suddenly makes sense to them! I know that all students do not learn at the same rate or in the same way so I am able to adapt my teaching to incorporate a variety of strategies in order for learning to occur. I have been a life long reader so my passion is helping reluctant readers develop a love for reading as well by improving their vocabulary and reading comprehension. As an adult, I have learned how important basic math skills are in working environments so am also dedicated to helping students understand addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and geometry.
I have a life long passion for reading and am never without a book. Because of this, I can articulate to students how important it is to become good readers. I also have a BA in Journalism so I can help students with writing, grammar, punctuation, spelling and proofreading.
As stated above, I have a current NC lateral entry teaching license for K-6th grade and tutored small groups of 2nd grade students. I also worked with 2 students one on one.
I am currently flexible scheduling lessons at a day, time and place that is convenient for you and your student. I do have an 8 hour cancellation policy but will work with you to reschedule. Please contact me to find out how I can help your student raise their grades, improve test scores and ultimately reach their potential!" less...
