"I'm Michael! I love teaching and helping students feel positive about themselves. Finance and accounting are difficult topics. I am here to help you succeed! I am approachable, positive, energetic and adaptable. I always come prepared and create a lesson plan just of you.
I have extensive educational, professional and teaching experience. I am a licensed CPA in three states. I hold the CFA designation and have worked at several of the top accounting and finance companies (Arthur Andersen, Lehman Brothers, Maverick Capital) during my 30 year career. My favorite role in these positions was mentoring and tutoring younger professionals. I also taught finance classes as a college professor (University of Southern Maine).
I have an undergraduate accounting degree from the University of Georgia. The accounting program is the 7th ranked program. I have a graduate degree, Masters in Finance, from the Northeastern University. I am a mentor at the business schools for both universities.
I have tutored and mentored high school and college students (Yale, Bowdoin College, Dartmouth, Duke, University of Virginia, Colby College, Bates College, UConn, American University, Ohio State University) in accounting and finance.
My teaching and tutoring style centers on creating a positive learning environment and encouraging students to learn by doing. Students do best when they have a strategy for different problems. Students do best when they have someone supporting them as they apply these strategies and learn by doing. My role is to help students build a tool box of strategies and encourage them to sharpen these tools through application.
I bring positive energy and enthusiasm to every lesson. I was a high school and college student too and remember the challenges and course load. I have two high schools students and a college student. I appreciate what you have to do to succeed.
Good luck in you studies! Stay positive and keep believing." less...
