"Hi! I'm Philip and I'm a mechanical engineer who loves people. I graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on mechatronics. Throughout my academic career, I developed a strong foundation in math and physics, scoring a 5 on AP Physics 1, Calc AB and BC, a 4 on AP Physics 2, and a perfect SAT Math score. In college, I took advanced Mechanical Engineering courses like Statics, Rigid and Fluid Dynamics, and Control Systems.
As much as I love machines and fast cars, seeing people grow brings me the most joy; nothing beats the moment when a student's eyes light up as everything they've learned starts to make sense. For one year, I had the privilege of tutoring a diverse group of 30 high schoolers on subjects ranging from Algebra 1 to Calculus, offering both one-on-one and interactive group lessons. Recognizing that each student possesses unique strengths and areas for improvement, I learned to tailor my lessons and problem sets to different learning styles, fostering a more equitable learning environment.
Central to my tutoring philosophy is the belief that real-world applications can enhance the understanding of complex concepts. As an engineer, I use math and physics every day. To me, math and physics aren't abstract concepts, but rather a language that explains how machines work, how the world works. I often hear students complaining about how theoretical and inapplicable their math/physics classes are. To this end, I design interactive lesson plans and craft problem sets that resonate with students' everyday lives. I believe illustrating the practical importance of math concepts ignites curiosity and motivates students to explore the subject matter further.
If this is what you’re looking for, shoot me a message! I’ll respond within 3 hours. I will do my best to share my excitement for math and science with you." less...
