"Hi, I’m Nora!
I'm new to Wyzant but not new to working with kids: I have over a decade of experience working with kids of all ages. I've worked as a Sunday school teacher for 7 years, specializing in designing lessons for kids 5 to 10 years old. I've also worked as a babysitter helping with homework and creative projects and as an assistant teacher in youth theatre programs (K-12) and educational after-school programs (K-5). As someone who has been involved in theatre in some capacity for almost my entire life, I enjoy utilizing those resources to help kids engage in lessons. I have a Bachelors degree in Theatre and a background in improv, play-building, and devising, as well as traditional theatre.
I have a long history with theater, on and off stage. While earning my degree I put on several productions as a founding board member of a student organization, as well as having my work selected for the Student Playwrights’ Festival in 2017. I’ve worked with CAT Youth Theatre, Park Avenue Youth Theatre, and Bronx Arts Ensemble in both production and creative roles for over 10 years. I’ve successfully directed kids and adults with little or no experience in acting to perform on stage confidently.
I bring a unique perspective when tutoring students with ADHD and other learning differences. I’ve taken a lot of time to learn about the ways in which neurodivergent brains learn and function differently. I’ve found that by catering to the primary forms of motivation (such as interest or novelty), as well as meeting challenges with effective strategies, I can meet the student at their level. This opens up a whole new world for students that have been told to “just try harder.” I am sensitive to kids facing challenges in their education and understand how important it is to find a tutor that can not only help improve their grades, but also give them confidence in their abilities. I believe everyone should be able to learn at their own pace, in their own way.
I can’t wait work with you!" less...
