"Hello students and families! My name is Joni S. Most recently I was an ESE teacher at Volusia Online Learning (Volusia County Schools, Florida) - removing obstacles so all students can succeed. Previously, I facilitated a middle-school Credit Retrieval Lab for students to remediate previously failed core courses. Prior to that, I was an English and Reading teacher at Matanzas High School in Palm Coast. Also, I was a middle school ESE/Math teacher in Daytona Beach and taught middle grades ESE/Language Arts. Prior to that, I was an ESE teacher and Business Education/Career Planning educator in St. John's County.
I hold a State of Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) Professional Educator's Certificate in Middle Grades Mathematics, Middle Grades English, Middle Grades Social Sciences, Middle Grades Science, Reading, Business Education, Driver's Education, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and Exceptional Student Education (ESE).
My husband is a realtor and an avid bicyclist. My older daughter graduated from Matanzas High School (MHS) in 2013 and took advantage of the "Dual Enrollment" program to earn her Associates degree from Daytona State College while in high school. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Valdosta State University (GA) in 2015 and is an "Interpreter for the Deaf" (ASL-English) in NY. My younger daughter graduated MHS in May 2015, where she was a straight-A honor student and a very successful MHS athlete. She graduated UNF ("Swoop") summa cum laude with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Education. I am happy to share information about the schools to help families navigate the process.
I am committed to student success and helping each individual. I believe that all students learn differently, and key to academic achievement is "learning how to learn" as well as time management and organizational skills. I am proud of relationships I have with our young adults, families, and school staff and of my reputation of always putting the kids first!" less...
