"As you'll see, my educational experience is interesting! My undergraduate education began 22 years ago at the University of Wisconsin Platteville in elementary education. After two years of working towards my teaching degree, I switched pathways and obtained a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin Madison. I worked in the insurance industry for four years before realizing that I needed a bigger purpose in life. I returned to school to continue my teaching degree, a bachelor's degree in history/social sciences. I substitute taught while job searching. My first teaching position was in Special Education. It was here that I obtained my master's degree in Cross Categorical Special Education. I spent four years working one on one with students with disabilities and also co-taught in math classrooms.
I am in my sixth year of teaching middle and high school math. I've taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade math as well as Algebra I, Geometry, General Math and co-taught in an Algebra 2 classroom. The Algebra 1 class that I teach is geared towards students who may struggle with math or have low confidence. I work with these students to build both skills and confidence in math. My hope is always that the skills and confidence will project into other aspects of school and life. Additionally, I have a post baccalaureate teacher certification through the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee for teaching at risk students in alternative education settings.
I taught virtually during the COVID pandemic! I have used a few different platforms to connect with students, adapted lessons for virtual learning, set assignments and adapted assessments and graded material in this format. I've used document camera setups to teach material. Also, I have spent 11 years coaching sports. This experience has allowed me to work with student athletes to improve skills at the most fundamental level. I enjoy the challenge of finding new ways to break instruction down to help students and student athletes be successful." less...
