"I have a Bachelor’s degree in Math from Duke University. ( I also hold an MFA in Directing from the Yale School of Drama and a PhD in German Studies from Stanford University). At Duke, I was an AB Duke scholar. I graduated from Duke Cum Laude, with a 3.5 GPA. I love mathematics and also love to share its power and its beauty with students. I scored a 780 on the SAT Math, and an 800 on the Math II achievement test.

I have a wide array of teaching experiences. I have experience working with teenagers from working at the Yale Summer School acting program for three summers, and at the National High School Institute at Northwestern University. I have also taught SAT prep for Stanley Kaplan for a year, teaching in-person classes and doing private tutoring in-person. I taught English as a Second Language for a year in Berlin. I taught German language at Stanford and UCLA. Finally, I have owned and operated my own acting studio in Los Angeles for the last twenty years. The studio was identified as one of six top studios in Los Angeles.

I approach tutoring by first of all meeting the student where he or she is. For a topic the student wants help with, I ask them to talk to me about what they do understand about the problem, so I get a sense of his or her foundation. I encourage him or her to think of the problem as a series of small steps that add up to a larger result, and encourage them to see if they can find the next small step. If one approach to solving the problem is not connecting for the student, I look for an alternate approach that will resonate with the student better. Ultimately, it’s about finding a way that works for the individual student." less...
