"Hello! Are you looking for a tutor with exceptional instructional knowledge and skill? Might the student needing help struggle academically for reasons related to dyslexia, ADD, ASD, or another condition that affects their learning style? I could be a good match for you!
I started tutoring in college and soon learned that I love helping students have fun learning and experience the satisfaction of building strong academic skills, so I made teaching my career. In private and public settings, I have spent the last 26 years having a wonderful time teaching English, Spanish, study skills, reading, writing, math, and more to students of all ages. I have especially enjoyed supporting students who have struggled because of learning differences, such as when I taught at and managed an accredited 1-on-1 school that specialized in serving students with dyslexia and other conditions affecting learning.
To keep improving my skills, I earned a master's in teaching degree in 2007, completing coursework and an internship focused on special education. In 2011, I earned prestigious certification by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards in the area of Early/Middle Childhood Literacy: Reading/Language Arts. In 2015, I completed 60 hours of training and a 100-hour practicum in the Orton-Gillingham method of instructing reading to students with dyslexia to earn certification in that method. In 2022, I submitted documentation of professional development sufficient to maintain my National Board literacy certification through 2027.
My training and experience enable me to easily:
* identify where students are with their learning,
* design personalized, effective instructional plans, and
* help students to quickly gain confidence and skills, all while
* having fun!
If this sounds like what you may be looking for, I would welcome a chance to discuss your goals and how I can help. I am confident that I can serve most students well, and I look forward to hearing from you." less...
