"I have a BA in Psychology and an M.Ed. in Education, and I am finishing my dissertation for a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology. I am licensed to teach mathematics for grades 6-12 and cross-categorical special education for grades K-12.
I have been tutoring math since middle school, which makes year 32 of tutoring. I have worked in early childhood education, elementary, middle, and high school grade levels, and with college students at both undergraduate and graduate levels. I say I've taught all age groups, from infants to adults. I worked with English language learners in elementary settings after school with literacy skills. I've taught 8th-grade math and Algebra I/Common Core Math I in middle schools. I've taught Foundations of Algebra, Algebra I/Math I, Math II, Math III, Math IV, Advanced Functions and Modeling, Discrete Mathematics, and AP Statistics in High School.
I was a teaching assistant for undergraduate students in Statistics for Behavioral Sciences and doctorate-level students in Advanced Inferential Statistics and Psychological Tests and Assessments. I was a collegiate tutor for all statistical needs, including SPSS, Excel, and dissertation methodology. I have also been a self-contained special education teacher for students with severe emotional disorders and a special education resource teacher for students needing extra assistance in mathematics. I have taught in all types of settings, including one-to-one, small group, regular classroom, and blended, which included students both in the classroom and virtual simultaneously, as well as entirely remote.
Although I have a large repertoire of methodologies I can pull from, I have found that problem-based learning that is differentiated for the needs of the students is my preferred approach. I find that activating previous knowledge, providing current relevant contextual knowledge, establishing rapport, and using probing questioning techniques provide the best learning outcomes." less...
