"I grew up in a poor area where education was not a priority. While many of my friends were quitting high school to support their families, I saw education as a way out of poverty. I took a true look at the importance of education while I was in college and studied criminal justice and the cycle it plays among lower income families. After graduation, I worked as a correctional case manager for 7 years and truly was able to see the importance education plays in our society. More often than not, I was tutoring the inmates as well as counseling them.
Given my experience as a correctional case manager, I have written and proofread several types of reports from incident reports to legal documents. Also as a correctional manager, it was required to be able to speak to large groups (120+ people) at any given time. Being comfortable with speaking is one of the greatest gifts anyone can have.
