My focus of study within the department was Computational Linguistics, simply known as math. I love the subject. I believe that math is a language rather than just a subject to be taught. There are ways to relate it grammar that allow for better comprehension and greater understanding.
I tutored my way through university and have continued to do so for over a decade. While I do have a focus on mathematics, I help with English, Biology, and Chemistry. I find that with the experiences I had with my studies allow for such an expansive range. My belief is that adapting to the student than rather the student adapting to me is the best way for them to study. I believe in the old school methods: repetitive study, flashcards, the double notebook method, and others. However, I enjoy making them fun. I try to identify a student's major and minor learning styles to better help them build better study habits and skills for the future.
I use zoom, but I try to make the classroom with active teaching. I enjoy getting to know my students, helping them build their self-confidence, and guide them into helping them answer their own questions with logic training. I think knowing how to do all three also aids in building better study habits, test-taking, and overall self-care.
Some of the ways I use my online platform is with helping with a simple breathing technique of anxiety: just breath in for 4, pause, and out for 7. Do it 3 times. I also use a drawing pad on Zoom that allows for real-time writing to help with not spending too much time with a mouse to click and draw. Each student gets their own google classroom that their parents will have access to with a learning plan should the parent desire one. I believe me, the student, and their caregivers are a team that needs to work as one to help the student achieve what they desire." less...
