"Hi, I'm Dr. Kristie!
I'm a language enthusiast who loves making learning fun and accessible. I've spent over five years teaching at the college level, helping students unravel the complexities of language and cognition. My journey in linguistics began at Emory University, where I earned my B.A. summa cum laude. I then deepened my expertise at The University of Texas at Austin, completing both my M.A. and Ph.D. in Linguistics. My expertise spans all aspects of language, with a particular focus on formal and logical elements (i.e. syntax, semantics, logic, cognition) that resonate with STEM-oriented learners.
Whether you're struggling with syntax trees, wrestling with research methods, or looking to improve your academic writing skills, I can help you cut through the jargon and grow your abilities. In addition to core academic subjects, I offer comprehensive test preparation services, blending linguistic insights with effective study strategies. I also have a background in language acquisition research, and I love working with motivated ESL students.
I believe in nurturing not just knowledge, but also the joy of discovery and the confidence to tackle challenges. My approach to teaching is dynamic and student-centered. I believe in making even the most complex linguistic concepts accessible and interesting. Whether I'm in a classroom setting or working one-on-one with a student, I adapt my methods to suit individual learning styles and needs. I strive to show how linguistic theories apply to real-world language use, fostering critical thinking and analytical skills along the way.
I am open to students at the high school, college, graduate and adult levels. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!" less...
