"Hi, I’m Loni! I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Communications. My concentration was in Radio/TV/Advertising Journalism. While in college I was accepted into the honors society for the field of Communications. I graduated a semester early from college due to a sudden illness in my family; thus forcing me to double up my credits and assume three part-time jobs. I took this task on like a marathon. I knew that with every completed class and project, I was one step closer to my goal of graduation. That is what I tell my students; set a goal and keep your eye on the finish line. It’s not always going to be easy, but, you will finish and you WILL succeed if you persevere.

In my “previous” life, I worked for the American Cancer Society where one of my jobs was to oversee the work of the volunteers. I was blessed with a number of high school students over the course of seven years.These students were exceptionally bright but lacked the confidence to express themselves. One student in particular was on course to become a doctor. He asked me what he could do to better his chances? Learn to write, I told him. Ten years later, I ran into this young man who I now call Doctor and he informed me he writes every day and loves it!

I currently work as a freelance writer for The Roanoke Times. I have also had over 20 short essays published on a gratis basis. It would be my sincere pleasure to share my love of writing, research, proofreading and composition with students who merely need someone to see their potential and help them navigate “writing outside the proverbial box”.
