"I've spent the past four years of college teaching as often as learning. I believe that a tutor or teacher can gain just as much as the student. We learn from each other! I have experience assisting creative writing workshops, photography classes, and tutoring young students in reading and writing. I love the trust and reassurance built through one-on-one guidance.
Since I've concentrated in creative writing in the past, I think it's important for everyone to have their own voice when writing. This always applies to academic writing as well––even if the style or format is academic and professional, the ideas, concepts, and ways you think through a topic will stand out when you stick to a genuine and unique perspective. I encourage students to push themselves when reading and writing. In other words, nobody should go for the simplest idea or analysis. Dig deep! The more interest you have, the more you will achieve in your work.
As a minor in creative writing, I have taken six semester-long writing workshops. This includes nonfiction, fiction, and poetry work. In addition, I took at least two literature courses every semester. I have a strong ability to read analytically, and in turn transfer that analysis into a strong English/literature essay. I focus on close reading of character, language, and style. Proofreading and editing is one of my favorite steps in the writing process. I believe it's important for students to be as concise as possible, and recognize how sentence structure, organization, and vocabulary can improve.
Please reach out for a fun, dedicated, and flexible tutor! Literature can be daunting, but with the right tools I promise you'll learn to love it and actually look forward to your projects and essays." less...
