"I have a BA in Elementary Education with a minor in American Musical Theatre. I also have an MS in Mental Health Counseling. I student taught both 5th and 2nd grades while in college. After college, I worked for 3 years teaching preschool and Pre-K. I love reading and writing and have taught both children and adults how to read and write. The adults I taught was when I was a substance abuse counselor. One of the things I have done with the 5th-grade class is called popcorn reading. This is where one student reads one paragraph or more and then when they're done they call on someone else. I found that the students were more apt to want to read when they got to call on each other instead of me. Also, I believe if a person finds what they are reading they won't learn to read because they are really not focused. For example, the same 5th-grade class had Basel Reader's, instead, I asked their teacher if I could use an actual book. I found one I thought they'd enjoy because they could relate to it, and they really did enjoy it and everyone wanted to read. Teaching reading and writing have been done in a formal setting. I know a lot about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as I am on the high end of the spectrum. Due to this, I have done a lot of research on the topic. I have not taught this subject, but I have worked with people who are on the spectrum. I once for was at my friend's and she asked me if I could watch her twins, one who is on the spectrum. It was challenging but I enjoyed doing it. I found I could relate to him more than most people. This was an informal setting at his home.
I started doing theatre in 1995 in high school so I have a lot of experience along with what I learned in college. I do not act but have filled many roles on the tech side of theatre including props, moving sets, curtains, assistant stage manager, stage manager, production assistant, painting (not designing) sets and lights and sound (running them not designing them). Theatre has mostly done in a formal setting. There was" less...
