I have worked in art field as a graphic designer and as a freelance artist. In my Master studies I have had extensive training in teaching ESL (English as a second language and English language learners. I have worked on helping ELL's learn to read and decipher vocabulary and spell. However I have also worked with non-ELL's and have worked with English students on several levels as well as special education.
In art I have extensive training in the fine arts as well as the media arts and I have a love of art history. I am an excellent pen and ink artist as well as pencil artist. I paint in acrylic and have extensive creative abilities for mixed media. I have dabbled in everything from sculpture to making paper from reading to special education.
I will start my student teaching in January and will be graduating in May with full honors.
My love for art goes beyond just drawing and painting. I believe it is a picture into one's soul. Often students who are struggling in other subjects such as math, science, and reading feel inadequate compared to their peers. Not because they can't do it, but because the interest isn't theirs. We often overlook the gifts that a student has, and as a teacher, I can show the student how to incorporate those gifts into those other subjects. Artistic students want to be validated for who they are and the talents they possess. No, we were not all cut out to be rocket scientists, but that does not mean that there is not a future in art.
I want to show these students that each one of their talents is a gift and how to put that gift to use." less...
