"Hello, I'm Elizabeth! I have a bachelor's degree in English (summa cum laude) and a master’s degree in Secondary English Education, along with an Iowa teaching license. I am currently pursuing a master’s in Speech Language Pathology.

I provide traditional tutoring along with revision services for written work.

I am passionate about working with students to improve their reading, writing, and speaking skills. I find goal-setting and reflection practices to be extremely rewarding for both students and myself. The best feeling is when a student who didn’t think they could realizes they can!

My approach to tutoring hinges on the belief that learning can be fun and deeply rewarding. Good things take hard work— and they are worth it! I create lesson plans based on student goals, whether the goal is long-term (i.e. strengthen critical reading skills) or short-term (to understand one specific grammatical concept, write a great college essay, etc.). I take an “I do,” “we do,” “you do,” approach to lessons, beginning with tutor modeling, moving to scaffolded work, and concluding with individual practice. However, this can be adjusted based on a student’s unique needs.

I have a year of tutoring experience, as well as a year of classroom student teaching and practicum experience. While working for one company, I tutored K-12 students in English, Writing, and Math. I also assisted students in college essay writing. In my classroom placements, I created and implemented lesson plans and assessments to teach and evaluate critical reading, writing, and speaking skills.

In addition to tutoring and teaching, I worked in a university's writing resource center. There, I assisted graduate students in writing and revising papers and PhD dissertations.
