"Growing up near New York City, I heard a lot of Spanish. I studied for three years in High School with poor instructors who showed little love for their jobs, or even for teaching youth. I spent my third year of college in Puerto Rico speaking and listening to fast Spanish every day. The day after graduation, I was hired by the Migrant Tutorial Program assisting as an ESL Instructor. I then spent five years with Farmworker Opportunities speaking Spanish 80 percent of every day.
Now I love nothing more than showing youth how they can advance and learn in Spanish instruction. It all begins in acquiring an interest in the language and cultures. This can be done through stories, music, and understanding a few basics building blocks of language learning. Drilling memory can be detrimental and a negative introduction to Spanish. I have better ways to advance.
I understand language acquisition. I taught ESL for two years plus.
Many years in school and a degree. I lived and worked in Spanish only environments.
I have a Degree in Music and 40 plus years playing and teaching.
