"My past personal experience deals with my career in the Boy Scouts of America. I earned Eagle Scout before my 18th birthday and from the ages of 10 to 18 I was teaching scout and camping skills to both kids my age and those younger than I. I have also been actively doing community service in low-income and urban areas since I was a boy. I have been able to transfer the teaching of these skills into teaching English literature to high school students. I am working on eventually finishing my Master's in English Literature, but for now am happy with my Master's in Urban Secondary Teaching from Cleveland State. I am very well-liked by many people and during my student teaching experience and my experience as a substitute teacher for two years, I was able to build rapport with both students and staff alike. I also work at a local child welfare agency currently as an After School Youth Specialist. Much like my ability to teach scout skills and now English reading and writing to high school students, I am fantastic at teaching emotionally disturbed and traumatized urban boys from the ages of 9 to 13 coping and social skills. This has helped me greatly with classroom management and compassion because the job is extremely rough. I am also currently an AVID tutor at Brush High School and tutor English, Social Studies, and Math to keep me from getting rusty! I am absolutely positive of my ability to effectively and competently tutor high school English or junior high English, history, critical and analytical reading and writing, and ACT/SAT prep." less...
