"I earned my undergraduate degree in Family Community Services from Michigan State University, which gave me a strong foundation in understanding the diverse needs of individuals and families. I then pursued a Master's in Education, focusing on K-6th grade, from Grand Canyon University. This advanced degree has equipped me with a deeper understanding of pedagogical strategies, child development, and effective ways to support students in their academic growth. My education has been a cornerstone in my career, and I continue to build on this knowledge in my day-to-day work as an educator.
With over 20 years of tutoring experience and 9 years of teaching in the classroom, I have developed a wide range of methods to support my students’ learning. My teaching approach follows the "I do, we do, you do" method, which scaffolds instruction and ensures students build confidence in their skills. I focus on providing multiple ways for students to access and answer problems, helping them grasp complex concepts by connecting lessons to their personal experiences. This makes learning more relatable and engaging, especially for the students I tutor. I started my career as a volunteer at the YMCA, where I quickly discovered my passion for teaching. From there, I worked as a building substitute and later an interventionist, eventually earning my master’s degree. Today, I teach math to 5th and 6th graders in a classroom setting and offer one-on-one tutoring, as well as small group tutoring for up to four students. My diverse experiences have allowed me to adapt and thrive in various teaching contexts, always striving to meet the unique needs of each learner." less...
